Expert in hiring and retaining technical women
Karen Catlin is a technical executive with more than 20 years of experience.
She began her career as a software engineer working on hypertext systems at Brown University and then Hitachi Europe Limited.
Karen moved to Silicon Valley in 1991 to join an early mobile start-up, GO Corporation. In 1993, she joined Macromedia, where she held a variety of management positions across engineering, including establishing the program management discipline for the company.
When Adobe Systems acquired Macromedia in 2005, Karen took over the shared engineering services group for the combined company. As a vice president in the CTO's office, her responsibilities included software globalization, product security, open source and standards, and engineering productivity. She also co-founded the 'Adobe & Women' initiative, focused on attracting, retaining, and providing career development opportunities for women at Adobe.
Karen Catlin now focuses on developing women leaders. She draws from her experience as an executive to coach individuals, run workshops, and advise companies on hiring and retaining female talent.
Karen writes "Use Your Inside Voice," a blog about the intersection of parenting and leadership. She's also a frequent guest blogger on career development topics.
